Cloth diapers are preferable, both for baby and the environment.
I prefer 100% cotton diapers (fitteds, homemade pocket fitteds, or just good quality Chinese Prefolds) with a wool longies or a pull on wool cover for the most natural, breathable, and healthy for baby and earth solution. I do keep a few waterproof plastic covers on hand in case all the wool needs to be washed too. I prefer to close my diapers with pins; they keep diapers in place well. For my newborns, I also use snaps and velcro, they’re not as wiggly so snaps and velcro work just fine. Easy as disposables, but made from more synthetic materials, all-in-one pockets are easy to clean and easy to use.
The Homestead Company has diaper ointments and baby care items.
I was better at using all cloth (and even part time Elimination Communication) with my first, but with my second we’ve done about half disposable and half cloth. Here are some deals on more natural disposables.
Amazon is competing with Diapers.com now for the disposable diaper market- which means excellent deals for you!
What I recommend:
Seventh generation has the ‘gel’ in it, but it doesn’t come out of the diapers and get stuck to the baby as easily as some mainstream brands. Their paper is unbleached, which is much healthier up against baby’s skin. Regularly $51.99 I just purchased for $27.99, free shipping at Amazon. (buy here)
- Choose your size preference, then they’ll highlight the ‘count’ and I had to click on that as well. Choose Subscribe and Save for an additional 15-30% off. I marked on my calendar to cancel the Subscribe and Save a week after I ordered.
Tushies brand doesn’t contain the gel, and they only use oxygen bleach. Not as good for heavy wetters, but if your child isn’t a heavy wetter I feel avoiding the gel is a good idea. Gel hasn’t been in diapers for very long (since the late 80s I think). I used these with my daughter, I think they may work better for girls than boys. These don’t have a Subscribe and Save option, but they are still on sale at quite a discount. (Buy here) Regularly $52.35, on sale for $43.63 at Amazon, at Diapers.com they are 44.49, with the code ‘CARA7210’ you can take 15% off your total order (if it’s your first order with diapers.com), which would bring the price down to $37.81.
Don’t see what you’re looking for? The rest of the diaper deals with the Subscribe and Save option are here or Deals at diapers.com (don’t forget the FIVEBABY code if you’re a new customer) here.
